Spring has (yet to) sprung! March ~

Hello!

I am writing this the last weekend of March, from my gate, in the MSP airport, about to depart on an adventure, and while I have a lot of excitement for my next week away from home, I am feeling all of the weird airport feelings.

Airports are the closest things we know to portals, buildings we walk into and out of weeks later, with the sun and salt lingering on our skin from distant, warm lands. Very strange.

There are tears, of joy at reunions, and tears, of sorrow at partings, and I have experienced both many times.

Sometimes I wonder if it’s worth it, the travels and wanderings, the joy and experiences if I come home and miss it so deeply, which brings me to ponder more than then just travel.

Where is the line between too much and too little?

I’ve always felt deeply, “intensely” or “too much” but man am I grateful for those things to care about, to have people, all over the world to miss.

And even while coming home can be hard, it’s always a sweet sorrow. There is something we miss about home that feels really fundamental, we miss the simple rythmes we don’t know we have until they are no longer there.

I find myself in paradise, missing my morning cup of tea in the mug my mama gave me.

I miss the cold air doing the chores, I miss the silent comfort of my house and how she creaks and groans in the wind, and glows in the sun.

I think you don’t appreciate something until you don’t have it, which I truly believe is an incredibly valuable lesson for all young adults to learn.

I have traveled, met many beautiful people, seen a lot of beautiful places, and somehow, I’ve just grown even fonder of my home and family.

Maybe our home lives aren’t everything we pictured, but they’re still ours and that’s pretty special.

So yea! Those are my airport thoughts today, portals, perspectives and persons.

Which brings back to MY special people!

What has March been at the Holden Homstead?

Well, March brought some unexpected snow fall! Including a nation wide storm system, that luckily only brought a foot or two of snow for us.

Opal competed in her very first bouldering and rope regionals! She climbed so strong and made all of us so proud! (As always)

It is so amazing seeing her, my little sister, thrive at something she loves dearly.

Spring equinox! Marking the beginning of spring! 🌷🌱 …on the calendar that is, the world around us has a bit to catch up.

The roads cleared up for some gravel biking! To my delight, wet season (spring) is often a hard season to be outside in the north woods, so I took advantage of the sun dried roads!

We had a last few days of Alpine and Nordic skiing before the snow turned sticky and the trials became patchy.

Our pond has melted enough for the ducks to swim! They fill their day with splashing, finding joy even in the puddles melted in our yard. They all made it through their first winter. And, have begun laying their first eggs!

The goat (Huckleberry) is very set of eating every single blade of grass appearing from under the snow, ready for garden greens.

And our kitten is begginjng to explore outside! She’s very curious about the chickens and loves all of the sunlight!

Opal, Coulter and Cedar are on a very fun adventure climbing in the mountains out west!

They are all sending crazy hard routes, while adjusting to the heat of Nevada, very different from home!

Opal is crushing it! Getting experience and climbing time on some big walls!

And Stacy and Dustin are on a fun adventure as-well.

They are in Canada for an Ice skating race on Nipigon Bay! Skating on frozen Lake Superior.

What a full month! With many fun adventures.

That’s all I have for you today, thank you for reading and see you next month!
